Coffee Makers: Getting a Good Deal

Bunn Coffee Makers

Let's face it. We all need to find different ways to save money these days. In fact, things that were once a luxury are now downright unaffordable. That said, things such as coffee are always going to be around as it is the world's most popular drink. If you are in the market for a new coffee maker there are some things that you can do in order to ensure that you are paying a good price. If you are able to locate a good deal then you will benefit by seeing some pretty significant savings right away.

Bunn Coffee Makers

The first thing that you can do in order to ensure that you are seeing maximum savings is waiting until the coffee maker that you want goes on sale. This may take a while to happen but it is definitely worth the wait if you are that interested in saving money. What you need to do is locate a few different stores that sell the coffee maker that you are after. Next, you will keep an eye on those stores to see when they are having big sales. The easiest thing to do is call the store and ask when they are having a sale. In short, most people are willing to share this information. If you do not want to call then you should take the time to browse through the circulars in your Sunday newspaper. The items for sale at different stores will be located in the circular. When the coffee maker that you want is listed be sure to get to the store as soon as possible so that you can get one before they sell out.

Bunn Coffee Makers

Another way to get a good deal on a coffee maker is to buy it online. In most cases you will be able to get the same stuff that is for sale in stores at a better price online. Online stores are able to sell stuff at a lower price because they have less overhead. At the end of the day a store that is located online does not have any rent or employees to pay. In turn they are able to sell the coffee makers at a lower price. Make sure to find a few different websites that are selling the coffee maker that you want. Once you locate the one with the lowest price you can go ahead and make the purchase.

How to Use a Coffee Maker

Bunn Coffee Makers

One of the largest industries today is the coffee industry. Virtually everyone drinks coffee which is why coffee makers are now sprouting everywhere. You can find drip coffee brewers, grind and brew coffee machines and also the manual machines like the French press coffee machine. How you are going to use it will depend on what you are using.

Bunn Coffee Makers

Drip Coffee Brewer
If you are using the drip type of brewer which is usually the most common automatic machine, you only need to fill up the coffee basket with the right amount of coffee grounds. Fill up the water tank with the right amount of water. The measurements will depend on the coffee flavour you want. Usually, the manual will tell you the recommended measurement but it is up to you to tweak the settings.

Bunn Coffee Makers

If the machine uses disposable filters, you will need to replenish it with coffee and water filter. Now tweak the settings to the desired taste you want and then press the "start" button. It will brew directly to the carafe.

Bunn Coffee Makers

Grind and Brew Machines
This machine functions much like the drip one except for this, it comes with a grinder. Most dual purpose machines have grinder off settings. That means you can use the brewing function only. If you want to use the grinder, place coffee beans in the grinder receptacles and choose the right ground settings. If you are using the automatic ones, it will immediately transition to the brewing stage once you have already programmed the settings. The brewing cycle is the same as that of the drip machine.

French Press Coffee Makers
The French presses tend to brew the best tasting coffee. This is because it functions without a filter. Also, it uses a manual brewing method. You first pour the coffee grounds (ground to a coarser consistency) and then pour hot water. They have the same compartment.

Place the plunger and then push slowly. This is the brewing cycle of this machine. Brewed coffee will settle at the bottom of the device. Since it does not use filter, most coffee essential oils are extracted which gives the coffee it brews a very flavourful taste. This is a good thing for those who have a need for a stronger cup of coffee. Just make sure you drink it immediately as it tends to get bitter due to the residues of the coffee grounds.

How Can I Make My Coffee at Home Taste Better?

Bunn Coffee Makers

Have you ever gone out and had a really great cup of coffee and then wondered why you can't do the same thing at home? This is especially bad when you have gone ahead and purchased exactly the same coffee you just had at the restaurant or coffee house. You get home and make a pot of coffee and it tastes absolutely nothing like what you had at the shop.

Bunn Coffee Makers

Isn't that aggravating? This happens to a lot of people. Fortunately there are reasons for this which are easy to fix.

Bunn Coffee Makers

You need to make sure that, in addition to good quality whole beans, you grind your own coffee, you have good clean water (bottled spring water is a great choice), and a brewing method that is able to heat the temperature of your water up to between 195 to 200. You'll be surprised how many machines don't achieve this temperature, and it is vitally important. So measure your water temp.

Bunn Coffee Makers

If you don't have a machine that can accomplish this, you can use a French press or just manually pour water that is just off the boil over your grounds using one of the manual brewers.

A good grinder is also a must. If you get all these things right you will greatly improve the taste of your coffee at home, and you'll enjoy that morning cup quite a bit more. In fact, you'll be wanting to have an afternoon cuppa as well. It is amazing how delicious coffee tastes when made correctly.

Mr. Coffee Versus Bunn-o-Matic - The Coffee Maker Battle Heats Up

Bunn Coffee Makers

For coffee lovers, there are few things more appealing than being met in the early a.m. hours by a perfectly brewed pot of coffee. That first cup sets the mood for your entire day, doesn't it? If it's brewed up right, you'll feel that extra zing in your step from morning till night. However, if that first cup is too strong or too weak, too hot or not hot enough, you quickly find yourself spiraling into a first-class coffee crisis.

Bunn Coffee Makers

So, how do you avoid a coffee catastrophe? It's simple, buy the best coffee maker on the market made especially for your coffee-drinking needs! Sounds simple enough, right? But, who makes the best coffee maker today? In other words, who is the All-Time Champion of Coffee Makers?

Bunn Coffee Makers

Ladies and gentlemen, we'd like to welcome you to our title bout of the day where two mighty coffee making titans - Mr. Coffee and Bunn-o-Matic - will meet in the kitchen to crown the undisputed coffee making champion of the world.

Bunn Coffee Makers

Introducing The Coffee Maker Contenders

In the green corner, we have Mr. Coffee - long-recognized as the undisputed champion of home coffee makers. Affordable with many models to choose from, Mr. Coffee currently has over a dozen models on the market retailing from between .99 to .99. With makers serving up between one and twelve cups, he'll be hard to beat. In fact, Mr. Coffee is in great shape with an amazing array of features and settings, including single serve, speed brew, switch, programmable, and thermal models.

In the red corner, we have the Bunn-o-Matic - king of the commercial coffee making market. Found in restaurants and chosen by baristas around the world, Bunn-o-Matic is known for his professional-grade machines. With a limited variety (e.g., currently seven models, with one single serve and 6-10 cup models), judges will need to pay close attention to the details to see what kind of punch the Bunn-o-Matic packs. One thing is for sure: with a starting price of .95, Bunn-o-Matic definitely tips the scales as a higher-priced option for home consumers.

For those of you who are new to the clash of the coffee makers, here's what the judges will be looking for during the brew-off:

Cup size

How many cups can your coffee maker cook up (say that five times fast)? Most brands today have single-serve and multiple cup models, with 10-12 cups being the upper limit for most home coffee makers.

Timer

If having your coffee pre-made for you when you wake up is important, then a timer is going to be key! Timers allow you to set the time when your coffee maker will start doing its thing and brewing you up your beloved coffee.

Space

If you have unlimited counter space, then this criterion might not matter much to you. But, for those of you for whom counter space is at a premium, deciding upon a model that fits your space as well as your décor might be an important consideration.

But, to truly separate the two competitors, our judges will also be looking closely at the following four areas:

Ease of Use

This is self-explanatory - at 6 a.m., you want a machine that is easy to use

Durability

As you know, coffee makers aren't the most pampered of home appliances. They can get pretty banged up with daily use. Choosing a hardy model is essential.

Ease of Cleaning

Starting with a well-maintained and cleaned pot is one of the best ways to assure yourself of a great cup of coffee day after day.

Style

Yes, in the end, many of us like our coffee makers to look cool. Sure, while it's true that they are simply functional machines, we want these machines to represent our love for coffee.

The fight is on between the top coffee makers in the world. So, who wins the home coffee maker battle? Bunn-o-Matic definitely has significantly higher priced models and less of a home-based selection, but is known for superior performance and durability. Mr. Coffee has a wider range of home models to choose from and most of their machines are significantly less expensive than even the lowest priced Bunn-o-Matic.

In the end, it's a personal choice for you to decide. Remember, a great cup of coffee ends up being more than your coffee maker. Quality water, beans, and the proper grind for your machine all make a big difference in whether your coffee maker and first cup of coffee are winners. Good luck!

The Origins of Coffee

Bunn Coffee Makers

It is commonly believed that coffee had its ascent in the classical time period of Arabian practice of medicine, which dates back from Rhazes, who adopted the schools of thought of Galen and was a pupil of Hippocrates. According to certain authorities, Rhazes (850 - 922 A.D.) was the first writer to make reference to coffee. He was the first person to handle medicine in an encyclopedic way. He adopted the poetic name of Razi since he was a native-born of the urban center of Raj in Persia (Iraq). He was a distinguished philosopher and astronomer, and at one particular time, he was the superintendent of the Bagdad hospital. He penned numerous knowledgeable books on the practice of medicine and surgical procedure.

Bunn Coffee Makers

Philippe Sylvestre Dufour (1622 - 1687), a French merchandiser, philosopher, and author, says in his treatise on coffee ("Traitez Nouveaux et Curieux du Cafe", published in the Hague, 1693), that the first author to acknowledge the attributes of the bean with the name of "bunchum" was this aforesaid Rhazes, which happened in the ninth century. Some authorities, nevertheless, is of the belief that "bunchum" signified something different and had nothing in common with the drink. In a later edition of his treatise, Dufour was prepared to acknowledge that "bunchum" could have been a root and not coffee, after all; nonetheless, he is heedful to add that there is no question that the Arabs knew about the drink as far back as the year 800. Other, more contemporary authorities, place the time that the beverage was known by the Arabs as early as the sixth century.

Bunn Coffee Makers

Conceding that by "bunchum" Rhazes implied that coffee, the plant and the beverage, must have been familiar to his direct following; and this, indeed, appears to be suggested by like-minded acknowledgments in the authorships of Avicenna (Ibn Sina), the Muslim doctor and philosopher (980 - 1037 A.D). The earlier Arabians named the bean and the tree that yielded it, "bunn"; and the beverage, "bunchum". Rhazes expresses that "bunchum" (the drink) is hot and dry and very beneficial for the stomach.

Bunn Coffee Makers

Certain authors claim the discovery of the beverage was in Persia (Iraq); only there are no grounds to back up the claim. Nevertheless, there are enough facts to justify a notion that in Persia, as was the case in Ethiopia, the drink has been celebrated from time gone by. However, it is a known fact that at an early time the coffee house in Persia (Iraq) turned into an instituted establishment in the main townships. These establishments were described as generally being large halls; their floors covered with carpets, and lit up by a large number of lamps at night. Many of these establishments featured singers and dancers, and many visitors came to hear to the fantastic stories of the "Thousand and One Nights."

In some countries it used to be the custom at one time to give a cup of "bad coffee" (which was a poisoned beverage) to those officials or other individuals who had demonstrated themselves unenviable to the authorities.

Although the drinking of the beverage commenced as a non-public religious occasion, it was not long after being introduced by the coffee houses that it got secularized and was relished more and more in the houses of the masses, although it did retain a specific religious importance for a number of centuries.

Automatic Coffee Makers Really Perk Me Up

Bunn Coffee Makers

Coffee is one of the most popular beverages in the world along with milk and tea. Recently, fixing a cup of coffee has been made a lot easier with the invention of the automatic coffee maker. They come in all shapes and sizes. Some models make regular coffee while others are specially made for making specialty drinks like espresso or latte. Some even come with coffee grinders right in the machine, and can be programmed to prepare your coffee hot and ready to go when you wake up every morning.

Bunn Coffee Makers

Taking extra care of your automatic coffee maker will make it last longer. However if you drink a lot of coffee, your machine will have to work harder and may need to replace your coffee maker more often. Turning it off when not in use prevents it from overheating. Cleaning it with a mixture of running water and vinegar once every once in a while is also advisable. This technique cleans the insides of your automatic coffee maker clean and maintains the excellent taste of your coffee. Don't forget to rinse it properly though or your coffee will taste a bit like vinegar.

Bunn Coffee Makers

If you want to save time, buying an automatic coffee maker will save you at least ten minutes every day. Just fill the machine at night and set it to brew your coffee at a specific time. If you usually get up at six, you can set your coffee maker to start brewing at 5:45 and it will surely have your coffee ready for you when you get up. Some models even have a flow interruption feature, allowing you to pull the carafe from the machine to pour a quick cup, and the flow of coffee will cease momentarily.

Bunn Coffee Makers

The variety of automatic coffee makers allow you to choose whatever color or size you prefer. You can find a model that have the features you need and the color that matches your kitchen decor. Bunn NHBX-B: Fast Coffee Maker Review

Bunn Coffee Makers

This is another review by me Mr. Coffee. I am a coffee fanatic, I cannot get enough of the stuff. So, with that said, I will begin the review. Let me start by going over a few of the key features that I think make the Bunn NHBX-B so worth everyone's attention.

Bunn Coffee Makers

The Bunn is fast, very fast. Most coffee makers deliver coffee in a average time of 7 to 8 minutes, but the Bunn is truly exceptional because it can deliver you a cup of coffee in just 3 minutes, apparently faster times of 2 minutes and 30 seconds have been recorded.

Bunn Coffee Makers

This is countered by some negative reviews with the fact that the Bunn NHBX-B uses a LOT of energy in producing such a fast cup of coffee. The machine has 2 tanks, one which is kept heated at all times the other tank is the one you fill up. It is possible to turn the tank off, but if you do this you will lose any speed advantage, because the machine will then take a full 12 minutes to heat up and brew coffee again.

Bunn Coffee Makers

Countering that though, is the fact the Bunn coffee makers, unlike some other coffee maker manufacturers are made in the US and so you are creating less of a carbon footprint by buying this product. It is doesn't totally counteract the energy money absorbed but a nice feature none the less.

The Bunn uses a flat bottom filter, which although reportedly does not create high quality coffee in comparison to cone filters, considering the Bunn NHBX-B is the best Flat bottom filter coffee maker on the market, this difference is negligible.

Thanks for reading my review, I hope I have been of some small assistance. And you are now able to make a more informed decision on which coffee maker to buy.

How to Make Great Tasting Coffee

Bunn Coffee Makers

Have you come to the internet to find some valuable information on how to make great tasting coffee? Believe it or not millions of people love the taste of coffee. As a matter of fact research shows that over 75% of people have to begin their day with a dose of caffeine in order for their day to begin the right way. Maybe you have tried drinking coffee and for one reason or another you were not happy with the way it tasted.

Bunn Coffee Makers

If you are looking for ways to learn how to make great tasting coffee; here are some tips that you may want to consider using for your next batch that you brew.

Bunn Coffee Makers

Coffee Beans: The truth is that many people who first begin drinking coffee tend to believe that all coffee beans provide the same type of flavor. However this is so untrue; there are several types of coffee beans to choose from and you as a consumer have to decide what type you want to use for your morning drink.

Bunn Coffee Makers

Try to stick to the coffee beans that are in an airtight container that prevents the bean from drying out. Avoid the self serve bins that a lot of the grocery stores hold their coffee beans in.

You can either choose the beans that are already ground up; or you can choose to grind the beans yourself before each pot that you brew. I have personally found the coffee tastes much better when you grind them at home before each pot.

Water: Believe it or not the type of water that you use for your pot of coffee is going to determine how your batch of coffee tastes. Avoid using regular "hard" tap water. Most of the local cities provide this type of water. You will notice that your coffee will taste bitter when you use the regular tap water. Instead brew your coffee using soft water by purchasing a filter that you can add to your kitchen sink. They do not cost a lot and you will notice a big difference in how your water tastes.

If you use these two tips to learn how to make great tasting coffee; you will notice that you will begin to enjoy the morning ritual of drinking that "hot" cup before you head out the door. After all millions of coffee drinkers can not be wrong about the way they choose to start their day.

How Ground Coffee Can Help Wake You Up in the Morning

Bunn Coffee Makers

Ground coffee can easily wake you up in the morning, which is why so many people all over the world choose to use it for their daily morning java. However, you need to take care if you want to make sure that your beans are ground properly since without this fine grounding, there is a possibility of the beans losing its full flavour in the process.

Bunn Coffee Makers

The salient point with this kind of coffee would be that, as its flavour is extracted, it has more particles that will get exposed for purposes of extraction in return. As a matter of fact, when this type of coffee is ground, its oils will seep out from the grain, going into the boiling water for a much better taste in the end. What you need to keep in mind is that this would be different compared to brewing whole beans, wherein the oils will get thrown out after roasting them for nothing but better color.

Bunn Coffee Makers

Naturally, there are several disadvantages that come with ground coffee, as well, the most notable of which would come about after the beans get overground. When this happens, the taste could get bitter and ruin your morning as a result. Plus, this type of coffee tends to deteriorate faster compared to whole beans anyway and, naturally, moisture and air, heat and light are enemies of all kinds of coffee, in general. When it comes to the ground kind meeting the air, there are chances that the oxidation that comes about with it will turn the smell of the coffee into a stale one. Moisture could also affect the taste - remember that - and whenever light or heat come to touch its surface, the taste could get reduced due to evaporation, as well.

Bunn Coffee Makers

Now, it would be possible to bring this kind of coffee together with various types of cheaper coffee, if you want, to result in a mixture that does not look much different to the purely ground kind, so try not to get deceived by those who sell coffee. To make sure that you get the best flavour, though, it would be essential for you to use nothing but freshly ground beans for your coffee.

There might be no better option out there than to purchase expensive ground coffee that is available in various different blends from various countries, though, if you really do not want to get disappointed with your choice of morning coffee. So, if your wish is to wake up and have a good, if not great, cup of java in the morning every day, it would be best to just pick out a top quality option before looking at any other available kind in the market today.

This is a review of the Bunn STX specialty 10-cup Home Coffee Brewer with the Thermal Carafe. Today I want to highlight who this coffee maker is for and who perhaps should look elsewhere for their coffee making needs.

Bunn Coffee Makers

I would say that this is probably one of the top 5 if not top 3 thermal coffee maker options on the market today. If you are after a thermal machine then I couldn't recommend many better machines. The fact that it is a Bunn alone should be enough to convince most people of the quality of this unit. Bunn have a long reputation of making coffee makers that last. I have read reviews on the web of users having their machines for upwards of 20 years. Now that is a coffee maker that lasts.

Bunn Coffee Makers

The thermal carafe on this machine is pretty standard, you should get approximately 5 hours or so of heat before the coffee becomes anything like lukewarm. Of course you will always see better results from your thermal carafe or thermos if you warm the carafe with hot water before using it. I would say the only real negative about this and all thermal carafes is the slowed pour rate, although I wouldn't be so picky as to say this takes away from all the other brilliant features but it is worth mentioning.

Bunn Coffee Makers

You can choose to use either the paper filters or a gold basket filter for you filtering needs. Which you use is a matter of personal preference, if you prefer you coffee strong then I would recommend using the mesh reusable filter. If you prefer the cleaning process to be a simple as dumping the filter in the trash and don't mind picking up new filters from the store every week, then paper filters are for you.

I hope you found something useful to your search for you next coffee maker in this review. For more information on other Bunn machines and other coffee maker reviews, please check out my other articles.

Can Coffee Makers Be Used to Make Tea?

Bunn Coffee Makers

Can coffee makers be used to make tea is almost an odd question. Tea has been made in them for some time and different brands advertise that you can make it in them. What kind of coffee makers can be used and are used to make tea best is the better question.

Bunn Coffee Makers

One cup simple pour-over drip makers often advertise they can make tea. They even offer directions such as in a clean coffee maker, put in a filter and place your loose leaves for one cup or a bag on the filter in the filter basket. Run one cup to one and a half cups of water through the it. To clean the it, discard tea bag and filter, then wash filter basket and the brewed tea container be it a mug or small decanter.

Bunn Coffee Makers

A second question about making tea in a coffee maker is why. There are a number of reasons. One reason has already been answered; it is quick and easy to use one. Another reason is it more economical than boiling water on a stove top kettle. And if you are making just one cup of tea, it is more economical than an electric kettle. For the same length of run time a coffee maker uses 800 watts, while the average amount of watts for an electric kettle is 1200 watts. Tea drinkers who also drink coffee point out the convenience of using one because it is always out on the counter and ready to use for either coffee or tea all the time.

Bunn Coffee Makers

Not only regular tea, but iced tea can be made in a coffee maker. The three methods include using iced tea concentrate, loose tea or using tea bags. Iced tea from concentrate usually comes in three different concentrate levels such as 5 parts liquid to 1 part concentrate, 10 parts liquid to 1 part concentrate or 7 parts to 1 part concentrate. These concentrates come in a wide variety of teas among them are oolong, herbal, chai and green tea as well as a number of fruit flavored ones. To make iced tea with a one cup maker, put the concentrate in the container for the amount of iced tea you want to make. Run the maker for hot water to fill the cup or mug halfway. Add ice cubes and stir to desired strength of iced tea you like. Note: one cup coffee makers make various amounts. Check the amount of hot water the coffee maker makes before brewing.

Some brands actually name their product as a coffee tea and hot chocolate maker. Others state the coffee maker has 4 brewing modes: regular, flavor plus for bold coffee, 1 to 4 cups, and iced coffee or iced tea while another is called a combo brewer for coffee and tea making. Yet, another is called a cold drip coffee and tea maker. Exact recipes for them come with most coffee makers that offer iced tea whether it is for loose tea or bags. If you want a sweetener or milk, be sure it in your container first and then make sure you have enough ice ready to stir into the container. These makers that make iced tea can be from a one cup to a 12 cup and can be a simple pour over model or a programmable digital one.

To answer the question, can coffee makers be used to make tea? Absolutely! Not only can they make hot tea a number of ways, but they can also make iced tea good enough for a tea connoisseur.

How to Read Your Horse's Body Language

Bunn Coffee Makers

In any face-to-face relationship with fellow humans, understanding each others body language is at least an unconscious skill. If someone is upset, we often know this immediately even if no words are exchanged. A key to a harmonious relationship with your horse is a basic understanding of his facial expressions and body language. But first, a few words about the general nature of horses.

Bunn Coffee Makers

Horses have been a very old part of the animal kingdom spanning millions of years. They are a herd animal that has also been hunted as prey for most of those years of evolutionary development. Therefore, it becomes easy to realize why horses "spook", or scare easily when something happens too suddenly or loudly. They are also naturally cautious in unfamiliar conditions and surroundings. On the other hand, as a herd animal, a horse is a social creature, and probably the best reason a horse allows himself to be ridden is his perception that his human passenger is a dominant member of his herd. When we gently coax them, or "whisper" commands, they obey our wish even though they may have no idea or thought about why the command should be obeyed.

Bunn Coffee Makers

Because horses are naturally social animals, they have developed a set of very predictable ways to communicate with each other. Of course, as they perceive a rider as an important part of their herd, they share those same expressions and gestures with owners and riders. There is a wide range of attitudes and emotions that will be apparent to an owner or rider that learns to interpret the body language and facial expressions of his horse. However, the beginning whisperer should understand these four stances and expressions:

Bunn Coffee Makers

Alert: Horses are often watching out for predators, even if only imagined. A horse that is alert will hold its head high, eyes will be wide open, and ears will point forward. He is looking off toward the distance or expects something to approach him. That alert expression can turn into a fearful expression or may return to a relaxed expression when the horse has reason to believe all is once again well. Some horses, especially those in front of a line of other horses will maintain this alert stance and feeling for the duration of the ride. That is normal behavior because horses instinctively expect the leader of the horse group to be the most alert.

Afraid: Many horses are easily "spooked" or frightened. When a horse throws his head back, and the whites of his eyes are especially visible, he is frightened. If he is not on the trail, you may have approached him too quickly, or there may be a disturbing influence of which only he is currently aware. Try to reassure him by speaking softly and stroking his face and body slowly before proceeding to work around or mount the horse.

Threatening: There are a variety of reasons a horse will become aggressive or behave badly. He may be in pain. If it is a strange horse, he may dislike being handled or ridden. If a horse is not properly fed or under nourished, he can become confused and threatening until his basic needs for water, food and care are restored to him. If this is how he feels, you will at least see his head slightly raised with his teeth bared. His nostrils may flare and his ears may pin back. Take the hint, and perhaps it is best to try again later after you can talk to his owner. If you do not, you may risk receiving a kick or a bite.

Relaxed: My personal favorite among horse expressions and body postures, your horse will hold its head at a normal angle or nod gently as you interact with him. He is most likely content in his environment, and is obedient to silent direction and commands. If the rider and owner will walk for awhile in the horseshoes of their animals, they will soon discover that they can get along with most any horse.

Coffee Maker Reviews - Keurig B40

Bunn Coffee Makers

Welcome to this review of the Keurig B40 elite coffee maker. During the next page or so I would like to detail the key issues and features of this machine and help you identify if it is the unit for you or if you might be best keeping away.

Bunn Coffee Makers

The speed with which this little bad boy pumps out coffee is truly top draw, and while there are coffee makers that can produce more coffee over a much larger scale (Bunn coffee makers can make up to 12 cups in just 3 minutes), this unit can give you a 7.25 oz cup of coffee in just 30 seconds. The time we save first thing in the morning is truly priceless, forget Master card get yourself a Keurig! The vast majority of people unless they are retired perhaps are on a pretty tight schedule first thing in the morning, and the few minutes that this machine will save you will definitely make the coffee making process seem like something you can do easily every morning, no hassles.

Bunn Coffee Makers

Some have stated this machine makes weak coffee, that's not entirely true, and while it is possible to make weak coffee using this machine, it is the person using it that should be taking the blame for any weak coffee that is produced. There are at least two very easy ways that we can have stronger coffee in our cup. The first way is to continue with the regular strength l-cup and brew twice using the 5.25 oz setting, the second is to simply switch to the bold or if that's not good enough the "extra" bold k-cup.

Bunn Coffee Makers

Thanks very much for reading this review. I hope you now have all the information you need to make an informed decision as to whether to buy this machine or not.

Your Personal Taste in Decorating

Bunn Coffee Makers

You can decorate a home to suite your personal taste in decorating. It is much simpler than you think it is. You do not have to have a degree in interior decorating all you need is good taste and an imagination.

Bunn Coffee Makers

It is best to begin with a small area first to test out your imagination and decorating ideals. Let's say a small bathroom for starters, nothing too drastic. Decide on a theme for your bathroom. A theme is something you are, found of or something that you like. This could be frogs, fish, seashells, flowers whatever best suits you.

Bunn Coffee Makers

When you choose your theme, the next thing you will want to choose is a few colors out of the items you will put around to add character to the bathroom. If you choose seashells then you could purchase some different size shells at your local discount market. When you have the shells look at the colors and pick two or three of the colors to decorate your bathroom in.

Bunn Coffee Makers

These colors will be for the paint, or wallpaper you will need to cover the floor with a plastic drop cloth to keep from getting the paint or the glue onto the floor. Paint the walls or paper the walls in the colors you choose from your theme.

Next, you can move onto the next step of accessorizing your bathroom, go and find the waste receptacle, towel racks, shower curtain, in the colors of your theme. Put these in there proper places around your bathroom.

Next, you will be deciding on the color of the carpeting and the bath mats for your bathroom theme. Pick the color carpeting and mats that match your theme. Put them into place and then you can move onto the next step.

Now the only things that you have left are the washcloths, hand towels, and bath towels, you will want to pick another color from your theme and all of your towels should match the colors in the theme as well.

Once you are done with the bathroom stand in the doorway and look at your completed creation; you will discover that you have dome an excellent job. Your personal taste in decorating is important to only one person that is you. You are the one who has to look at the bathroom daily so it should be, the way you want it to be.

Commercial Coffee Makers Offer Great Coffee Solutions

Bunn Coffee Makers

Commercial coffee makers and coffee brewers are hotter than ever in the office coffee and home use world. Coffee machines that were once only seen in restaurants have migrated over into the everyday office and home setting. These commercial coffee makers are much more reliable over longer periods of time and brew a much better cup of coffee compared to those made for home use coffee brewers. Commercial coffee makers brew coffee at an optimum brewing temperature and offer maximum coffee taste extraction from the coffee grounds. These commercial brewers often brew at 10-20 degrees hotter than the made for home models.

Bunn Coffee Makers

Some of the top commercial coffee brewers on the market are made by Bunn, Bloomfield, Curtis and Newco. These companies have been pioneers in the commercial coffee maker industry for up to 40 or so years. Most of these commercial coffee makers come in both pour over models and automatic type brewers that hook up to a water line. These commercial brewers operate quite similar to your home hot water heater as most machines have an internal tank and thermostat that hold the water at or about 191 degrees, which is the optimum brewing temperature for coffee. The automatic brewers are very easy to install to a water line and all connections needed are found very easily at your local Home Depot or Lowes store. Most commercial coffee manufactures make parts very easy and affordable to get, although most models can operate for years and years without the slightest little problem.

Bunn Coffee Makers

Also, most of the commercial coffee companies have free maintenance and repair manuals that are easily downloaded straight from the company's website. With office coffee companies constantly raising their prices in light of fuel and rising economic cost, an office could save quite a bit of money over a year buy owning their own commercial coffee maker. Most wholesale clubs like Sams and Cosco carry the size coffee filters and replacement bowls at a very affordable price. They also carry fraction packed coffee and filter packs designed specifically for commercial coffee brewers. Auction giants like eBay have quite a full selection of these coffee machines listed all the time at incredible savings. Make sure that when you do by one that needs to be shipped that the seller drains the tank before shipping. So next time you are thinking about purchasing a coffee brewer for home or office make sure to consider upgrading to a commercial coffee maker.

How to Talk About Horse Markings and Colors

Bunn Coffee Makers

Horses have a very old lineage covering millions of years, and many different terrains. It isn't so surprising, then, to learn that horses are found in an array of colors and patterns, with a host of different markings. By familiarizing yourself with the names of horse colors, patterns, and markings, the two lists below will help you to intelligently spot, name, and discus horses among your peers. For beginning riders, it will be comforting to know that when your trainer asks you to saddle up the buckskin blaze, you'll never have a quizzical look on your face, or wonder if you should 'fess up' that you don't know what she means.

Bunn Coffee Makers

Markings
Terms to describe marks on a horse can be divided into facial and leg areas. People around horses often describe these white marks as 'chrome', a rather funny use of the word to refer to variations seen as attractive additions to a horse's appearance.

Bunn Coffee Makers

Here are some facial chrome feature descriptions:

Bunn Coffee Makers

A star is a white spot on the horse's forehead.

A stripe is a narrow white strip that runs down the center of the horse's face, from the forehead down the bridge of the nose.

A snip, I suppose, is a part of a longer stripe. It's a white spot on the muzzle, on or just below the area between the horse's nostrils.

A blaze mark is a wide white area that starts at the horse's forehead and ends along the bridge of the horse's nose.

Bald refers to a horse with a large amount of white on the face that starts above the forehead, runs along the front of the face to the muzzle, and extends beyond the bridge of the nose to the sides of the face.

The main kinds of chrome on the legs include:

The coronet band is a small white band just above the hoof.

Half pastern means a white marking that starts at the edge of the hoof and extends halfway up the pastern. Think of the pastern the horse's equivalent to the upper part of a human foot, and the white marking on the horse would be equivalent to a human wearing white footlet sock.

A sock is a larger white marking that starts at the edge of the hoof and extends about a third of the way up the leg.

A stocking, then, is a white marking that extends from the hoof to the horse's knee, or hock if the stocking is found on the back legs of the horse.

Half cannon is a white marking that starts at the edge of the hoof and extends halfway up the middle of the leg. Consider it to be between the length of a horse sock and a horse stocking.

Colors
Gray: A gray can be nearly white to dark gray or everything in between. Many gray horses will have dapples, which are circular, indistinct spots. In those cases, these horses are called 'dapple grays'. Most gray horses are born dark and develop their gray color as they age.

Bay: Bay is a rich brown color on the body with a black mane, tail, and legs. Bays can be dark tan to reddish brown.

Brown: In the world of horses, the color brown describes a very dark brown animal, often with a lighter brown around the muzzle, flank or inside of the upper legs. The mane and tail of these brown horses are black.

Spotted: Spotted horses feature one of several different coat patterns that often consist of oval, egg-shaped spots. These spots can be distributed throughout the body or limited to the horse's hindquarters and hips.

Black: For a horse to be truly considered black, he must be jet black with no light areas anywhere on the body, including the mane and tail. A fine, black horse in a sunny pasture is truly a poetic spectacle.

Dun: A dun horse has a gold, reddish, or tan body color and a black or brown mane and tail. All duns have a dark stripe down their backs. Roan colored horses are believed to exist within the family of duns. A subset among the roans are the grullas described as a mousy grey dun.

Buckskin: A buckskin looks very much like a dun but without the dark stripe along its back. The color can be anything from light to dark tan, always with lower black legs, a black mane and tail.

Roan: This term describes a horse who has a dark background color that's intermixed with white hairs. The head and lower legs of the roan are usually darker than the rest of the body. Roans come in different colored patterns, most often red (white hairs mixed with chestnut or red hairs) and blue (white hairs mixed with black hairs). Many quarter horses fit this description.

Palomino: A golden yellow body with a white mane and tail is characteristic of the palomino coloration. This color horse comes in different patterns, depending on their breed.

Chestnut: Chestnut is a distinct reddish color covering the entire body. The mane and tail are usually the same color, although some chestnuts have what is called a flaxen or a blond mane and tail. Chestnuts come in different shades, from very light (called sorrel) to very dark (called liver).

Pinto: A pinto horse is marked with irregularly shaped patches of dark color against white or, sometimes, white irregularly shaped patches against a darker background color. The dark patches can be just about any color, including palomino, chestnut, bay, buckskin or black.

None of us were born an old hand around the ranch, rodeo or show arena. If you find the information above useful at this stage of learning, print a copy to have nearby. It will help you get a verbal handle on what your peers and trainers are saying.

A Good 6 Cup Coffee Maker No One Would Recommend

Bunn Coffee Makers

It is because this 6 cup coffee maker is not well known, that is the reason why people are not recommending? Well, I can assure you that this is definitely not the reason, this is a coffee machine that is very well known.

Bunn Coffee Makers

If most of the folks that are giving feedback on coffee brewers are having the mindset similar to mine, then it would be a case of not taking this machine seriously. Well, to start with, this maker does not even look like it can really works, it look so cute! But, it has to be cute, because this is the hello kitty brewer.

Bunn Coffee Makers

Now you would have to agree with me that this is one machine that is on par, if not better known than your usual Bunn or Senseo. And if you agreed with me on this, then you would also be nodding your head agreeing that this fellow looks more like a toy than a coffee machine. And, it is after trying it out, that I think this fellow needs some positive feedback as it has been grossly misunderstood! This is not only a good looking 6 cup coffee maker, it brews pretty good coffee too!

Bunn Coffee Makers

For people that have been reading my articles on coffee machines, I usually award high marks for brewers that are good looking, and of course, this hello kitty machine would definitely score high with its pretty pink theme and matching kitty mascot. And using a removable filter basket, its primary value add is the saving on filter paper and of course most environmentalist would agreed that this is a green machine by not wasting paper.

Its set-up is similar to that of a very basic drip filter brewer, and with the right temperature, soft water and well maintained machine (especially the filter basket), this machine does as good a coffee as any other machine.

What surprises me is the attention to details that the Sanrio folks invested into this coffee machine, that it even comes with a anti-drip feature. This is a value add, I think only higher priced machines would have. I always like things that are easily measured and this hello kitty coffee brewer has a water tank that comes with easy to read water marking that would satisfy this area.

Of course, belonging to the drip filter genre, this machine also comes with a warmer plate. While, warmer plate is not my personal favorite, as I do think they are useful in keeping coffee fresh, I see it essential in this instance. Just imagine how weird or out of place a pink hello kitty theme would like, with a thermal carafe. So, the usual carafe would have to be in place to ensure that the integrity of the pink look and feel is maintained.

So, should you get this coffee maker? Well, retailing at just , personally, I think this is the perfect gift for ladies especially those that loves these cute stuff. Of course, they also must like to brew coffee. Then, it would make a great gift for this group of folks.

Just Holding On - Riding Your Horse Bareback

Bunn Coffee Makers

When riding bareback, there is no saddle or blanket. The bareback rider sits in the hollow of the horse's back and stays there mostly through the rider's ability to balance. It's an especially uncomfortable seat though less so at the walk and the slow canter pace.

Bunn Coffee Makers

Before stirrups and saddles were invented in ancient Central Asia, everyone rode bareback. Feet dangled and upper thighs griped the horse for security. Early soldiers rode bareback with nothing to hold them onto their horses but talent, will, and possibly the terror of falling off in the heat of battle.

Bunn Coffee Makers

Some today can tell you about bareback riding for the lack of the means to afford a saddle. Children on the farm are most often in this group that have the spunk, resilience, and especially the desire to ride no matter the bounce or lack of control. Seen in the movies, it is always an exciting, heroic looking spectacle.

Bunn Coffee Makers

For those that learned (or had to learn) that way, they may tell you it was a blessing in disguise to start out the hard way to ride a horse. When a saddle became available, and they pursued the sport of horsemanship, the game of balance had already been mastered years before.

I would not recommend anyone purposely begin to ride that way. However, riding your horse bareback on occasion can help your seat and balance if you are new to riding. Also, pressure sores and saddle galls can occur to horses ridden in poorly maintained or fitted saddles. Sometimes the girths or gear are excessively tight, or inadequate cushioning is used under the saddle and girth.

Notwithstanding, your horse will still require exercise. Therefore, riding slowly bareback style will keep your horse fit during his recovery. When you do ride bareback, use a bareback pad. It's a cloth pad held onto the horse's back by a cinch belt that encompasses the horse's belly. The pads are available at tack and feed stores, in catalogs, and on the Internet.

There are a few other advantages to riding bareback. Firstly, getting your horse ready for a ride is easier when you're going bareback. There's no saddle to haul out of the tack room; just put on the bareback pad and you're set for a ride. You can also ride without a pad, but be aware that your horse will especially sweat where your legs touch him. That sweat can leave you with big, embarrassing, horsehair-covered sweat marks on your seat and the back of your legs!

Secondly, riding bareback can make you feel more at one with your horse. No leather gets between you and your mount. You'll experience the movement of the muscles in your horse's back and sides as you ride. You also feel a bit wild sitting up there without a saddle to hold you or stirrups for your feet.

You can ride bareback in any discipline. If you normally ride English style, you can use the same bridle on the horse even though you're riding without a saddle. The same goes for western riding. If you're a western rider and you dare, you can even compete with your horse in bareback classes at horse shows. In any case, when riding bareback, make sure your pad is tightly cinched and doesn't slip as you ride. Also, it may be unwelcome advice for western riders, but it is a good idea to wear a helmet in case you and your horse should happen to part company.

If you are new to riding and have an instructor, ask him first for the go-ahead before you try bareback. You will have less to support you, so you need to be skilled enough to stay on the horse on your own. Your instructor can tell you when you are ready.

The Healthy Way to Enjoy Your Coffee!

Bunn Coffee Makers

Yes, coffee has definitely been rumored to be an unhealthy drink in past years, but the great news is that those rumors have been proven false! There is a huge coffee culture in America, and it truly is the best way to start your day. Caffeine does work as a diuretic, which has the potential to prevent calcium absorption, and it can also cause anxiety and insomnia in large doses. However, studies have shown that regular coffee consumption, which is around 3 cups per day, does count in your daily fluid intake and will not cause dehydration. So what else can coffee do for you?

Bunn Coffee Makers

A recent study performed by the Harvard School of Public Health did show that those who drank coffee regularly had a significantly less risk of developing gallstones and Type 2 Diabetes. Coffee is full of antioxidants, so it works to neutralize free radicals underneath the surface of the skin to prevent disease and premature aging. Coffee also has the potential to prevent Parkinson's disease, which is according to a study from the Archives of Internal Medicine. In the same manner, coffee will also prevent cirrhosis of the liver.

Bunn Coffee Makers

Coffee did come in second as the healthiest beverage in a report formulated by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. Coffee is definitely rising to the top of the list in health benefits, especially due to its high antioxidant content! Pregnant women are recommended to cut back or avoid coffee altogether because of the caffeine content, but many health professionals do say that you can enjoy coffee in moderation during pregnancy. A study that was done on pregnant rats in taking caffeine did show negative effects, but the equivalent of the caffeine in the study was up to 70 cups of coffee per day! Pregnant women can easily enjoy a cup of Joe or two per day without any adverse health effects.

Bunn Coffee Makers

The bottom line is that you can feel free to enjoy your Java in moderation. If you are not sensitive to caffeine, then keep in mind that caffeinated coffee provides better health benefits than decaffeinated coffee. In all of the previous studies mentioned, decaf coffee did not show the same positive effects as regular coffee. These benefits include reducing the risk for gallstones and Type 2 Diabetes. One other thing to keep in mind is that a study done in 2005 on Coffee and Lipoprotein Metabolism showed that drinking from 3 to 6 cups of decaffeinated coffee per day did raise the levels of blood fat in the body that are associated with LDL cholesterol. This is not an issue that regular coffee drinkers have.

If you are interested in decaffeinated coffee, then make sure that you select a brew that is formulated with the Swiss Water Process. This is a method of decaffeinating coffee that does not use harmful chemicals, but it only uses water to remove the caffeine from coffee beans. The great thing to remember is that more than ever, coffee is a healthy way to start your day!

Recipes From Your Coffee Maker

Bunn Coffee Makers

If you love your coffee, you will love dishes made from coffee. There are many dishes that use the wonderful taste of coffee as their main component. Let your coffee maker help you prepare your meals.

Bunn Coffee Makers

Most people think of using coffee to make desserts-and there are great recipes for that-but coffee adds a distinctive flavor to many other dishes as well. You can make barbecue sauces and glazes for meats, and put coffee in chili and pot roast recipes, to name a few.

Bunn Coffee Makers

Just as you use other fresh ingredients in your recipes, you should be sure the coffee you use is fresh. Either buy freshly ground coffee or grind your own, with your coffee grinding machine. If the recipe calls for brewed coffee, brew it just before you use it; don't use your leftover coffee for this. Most of the recipes using coffee use coffee that is 2-3 times stronger than drinking coffee, since the flavor is going to be blended. So here are a few of the wonderful recipes using coffee:

Bunn Coffee Makers

Coffee Meatloaf Sauce: Add a tablespoon of instant coffee to a blend of the following ingredients: a quarter cup of water, a half a cup of ketchup, a quarter cup of dry red wine, a quarter cup of Worcestershire sauce, two teaspoons of vinegar, an ounce of margarine, two tablespoons of lemon juice and a teaspoon of brown sugar. Cook your favorite meatloaf recipe, but after about 1/2 hour of cooking, pour this sauce over it and continue baking for 45 minutes more at 375 degrees (190C) for tender, delicious meatloaf.

Espresso Brownies: Gently heat a cup of sugar, a quarter teaspoon of salt, and a stick and a half of butter in a sauce pan; add a teaspoon of vanilla, four ounces of chopped, semi-sweet chocolate and stir until melted in. Add a tablespoon of dark roast coffee. If you would like to add a crunch, add two teaspoons of espresso granules. Mix everything together and let cool, fold in three eggs and a cup of flour. Pour into a rectangular baking pan, bake for 30 minutes and set out to cool. Perfect brownies every time!

Black Russian Cake: Make dark chocolate cake mix, your own or from a box, and add a cup of vegetable oil, a package of instant chocolate pudding, four eggs, and a half a cup of creme de cacao. To this mix, add a cup of Russian coffee. (A cup of black coffee with an ounce of vodka and an 1/2 ounce of Kahlua added.) Beat well and put into a tube pan and bake for 45 minutes. Your guests will love this switch from Black Forest Cake.

You can even enjoy great cocktails using coffee; Kahlua is only one of many. If you want to be able to add coffee to just about everything you like, try making your own coffee syrup.

There's even a recipe for coffee syrup. Combine a cup of sugar with a cup of double strength Colombian coffee. Boil, stirring constantly until the sugar dissolved. Lower heat, simmer and stir for three minutes, then cool. You can put this flavoring into almost any of your favorite dishes and add the special touch of coffee.

The Best Ways To Keep Coffee Hot In A Coffee Maker

Bunn Coffee Makers

Keeping our brew fresh and hot is a big deal for some of us coffee drinkers. There is nothing worse than a tepid mouthful of stale coffee. How you keep your coffee hot depends a little on where you are and what you're doing. What happens to coffee as we keep it warm? Are there things I should never do to keep my coffee warm? Knowing a little more about coffee will help you understand how to keep it hot and tasting great.

Bunn Coffee Makers

This little set of points should help you out in most situations.

Bunn Coffee Makers

- Use a thermal cup or mug for commuting or to keep it hot for short periods of time

Bunn Coffee Makers

- Glass and stainless steel thermos style bottles barely effect coffee taste at all

- French Press brewers (like Bodum) are not good for keeping coffee hot. They continue to brew and can produce very bitter coffee

- Try to not use direct heat from an element or hotplate if possible

- A sealed or closed container slows the loss of essential aromas that influence coffee flavour.

- You get the best flavour from coffee that is kept at least 170F.

There are a number of taste related components in a cup of coffee that change or degrade over time. This means that the taste of a cup of coffee will continue to change, for the worse most would say, just because time passes. The best way to manage this problem is to simply brew smaller amounts of coffee more frequently. As we all know, the best cup of coffee is a freshly brewed cup of coffee.

Why Do People Put Egg Shells in Brewing Coffee?

Bunn Coffee Makers

This is actually a practice that is not common today but it was common in the United States during the depression era and before that. Cookbooks in the 1930s included them as an ingredient in coffee recipes. It's interesting that this practice has mostly disappeared.

Bunn Coffee Makers

So what exactly is the reasoning behind that? The answer is simple...to get a smoother tasting cup of coffee and it works. First, we'll look at why putting shells in brewing coffee works and then we'll see how to do it.

Bunn Coffee Makers

Coffee contains acids. These acids in coffee have varying degrees of taste to them. Some coffee can be so acidic it tastes bitter. In addition, some of the acids in coffee cause an undesirable reaction in sensitive people. There is nothing worse than heartburn after drinking your morning cup of coffee.

Bunn Coffee Makers

Egg shells contain calcium. The calcium carbonate in the shells neutralizes some of the acids that are present in the coffee. However, in order for this to work well, they must be in small pieces and added to the coffee grounds. Large pieces of shells won't work as well.

As mentioned earlier, in order for the shells to de-acidify the coffee, they need to be in broken small pieces. The best way to do this is after you break the egg for cooking purposes, rinse the shells and bake them at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 10 minutes. After baking, break up the shells into little pieces and add a heaping teaspoon to your coffee grounds. Some people like to actually grind the shells in a food processor or coffee grinder.

You can store the ground egg shells in a plastic bag or airtight plastic container and use them as necessary.

A word of caution: don't use egg shells without either washing them in hot water or baking them first. Raw egg left on the shell can contaminate your coffee and make you sick. Baking the egg shells removes this danger. Also, don't do this if you have egg allergies, for obvious reasons.

You know now why people put egg shells in brewing coffee. At one time, this was a tried and true method of making a great cup of coffee, but that was before coffee makers became so fancy.

Coffee Drinking in Italy

Bunn Coffee Makers

If ever given the chance to travel to Italy, there will be much more for you to enjoy about it than the overwhelming amounts of culture and art. You will also experience the dedication to perfect coffee and espresso. Italy has contributed much to espresso and espresso fans over the years. In fact, the espresso machine inventor, La Pavoni, was an Italian!

Bunn Coffee Makers

While you're in Rome, if you want a coffee, you should order it as a "caffe". Likewise, if you'd like a shot of espresso. This is a small and strong shot of espresso, which is normally the term that you would use to order a coffee. Italians don't order a shot of espresso by saying "un espresso", but they will instead say "un caffe". If you would like two shots of espresso within one cup, that is called a "caffe doppio", which is the term for a double espresso.

Bunn Coffee Makers

If you're not a fan of strong, bold espresso, order the "un caffe lungo" - the term used for adding two times the amount of water to the espresso. This will give you a similar consistency to an American cup of coffee or Americanos style of espresso. You may already be quite familiar with a cappuccino, which is made with a shot of espresso and foamed milk. The barista will froth the milk for the cappuccino by infusing air bubbles into the milk, which will give it texture and a velvety foam. A cappuccino is made of one third parts espresso, steamed milk, and foam. Using the proper ratio of foam is important when the barista is steaming the milk to create the perfect consistency of cappuccino every time. What many people don't realize is that a cappuccino is actually one of the hardest espresso beverages to capture and make properly, although you may be pleasantly surprised to find artistic shapes atop your cappuccino in the form of cappuccino art.

Bunn Coffee Makers

The word cappuccino was actually derived from the Cappucin friars in Italy, and it may refer to the dark color of their robes in contrast to their white heads, which was often surrounded by a ring of their brown hair. In Italy, it is customary to drink cappuccino before 11 am only, since it's considered to be mainly just a morning beverage. As a tourist, however, you can do whatever you want!

For another authentic treat, you may want to try the macchiato, which is named after the Italian word for "stained". In actuality, this drink is made from a shot of espresso that is stained with a few drops of steamed milk.

Overall, it is best to enjoy your cappuccino with a pastry treat for breakfast, and it is important to understand that you may pay significantly more for your espresso beverage if you are in a tourist location. Many times, you can find a wonderful hidden gem in Italy of a café; off of the beaten path that will serve you fresh and authentic espresso at an affordable price! When in Rome...

How to Clean Commercial Coffee Brewers

Bunn Coffee Makers

Commercial coffee makers run from pod brewers, grind and brew, to airpot and shuttle brewers. Each group has to be cleaned a certain way both daily and weekly or bi-weekly depending on its use. All cleaning should be done with the hottest water possible, which brings a word of caution for possible burns and a note this job should be done by professionals.

Bunn Coffee Makers

A prime example of this is the pod brewer. If a pod brewer is used more than twice a day, then it needs to be descaled once every three months. Regular descaling of not only the pod brewer but all commercial brewers will prolong the life of a brewer; it will also guarantee optimal brewing results for a long time.

Bunn Coffee Makers

Step one to clean a pod brewer: Fill one-fourth of the water reservoir with white vinegar, then fill with clean tap water up to the maximum line.

Bunn Coffee Makers

Step 2: Place a 32 ounce container on the cup grate to catch the vinegar/water cleaning solution.

Step 3: Activate the manual prime feature. Press and hold down the Brew button until about 9 ounces have been dispensed from the brewer.

Step 4: Repeat this set two more times, making sure there is enough solution in the reservoir each time.

Step 5: The unit will then heat up normally and the brew button will turn green, indicating that the water has reached brew temperature. One minute later the button will turn yellow. Step 6: Wait ten minutes, this allows the solution to sit in the tank at brew temperature.

Step 7: Refill the water reservoir with cool, clean, tap water to the maximum line.

Step 8: Repeat steps 2, 3 and 4 using the water that you add in step 7, to purge the cleaning solution from the system.

Step 9: Refill the water reservoir to the maximum indicator line and the unit will be ready to brew coffee or tea.

Grind and Brew coffee systems require daily cleaning of the cabinet and the warmers. The outside of the machine can be cleaned with a damp cloth, a household dusting spray or a stainless steel cleaner depending on the exterior of your grind and brew system. Do not ever use any abrasive as it will mar the finish. The warmer plate will maintain its appearance if cleaned regularly with a damp cloth for coffee stains. A detergent or sanitizer may be used for heavy deposits. For weekly cleaning, the slide valve under the cabinet hood should be wiped off with a clean dry cloth. Using finger tab open the slide valve with wipe the ground coffee from the inside of the spout, seal and slide valve. Use commercial grade urn cleaner as directed by manufacturer to clean the brew basket, airpots and decanters.

Commercial brewers that brew into a decanter or airpot should wash the brew funnel, decanter or decanters by hand. Never use a dishwasher as it may cause breakage of the decanter or brew funnel. Clean all plastic and stainless steel surfaces whenever necessary with a damp cloth and mild soap. Rinse the items thoroughly and wipe dry. Be sure to avoid any strong cleaners which my adversely affect the plastic parts. Remove stains on stainless steel parts with a Scotchbrite pad. Never use steel wool as it will mar the finish. Remove the sprayhead with a nut or the sprayhead itself once a week to prevent lime build-up and clogging of the holes in the sprayhead. If the sprayhead has extra build-up, use a soft brush like a soft toothbrush to clean if needed.

Shuttle brewers need to be cleaned weekly or bi-weekly depending on their use. To clean, fill the shuttle with a gallon of hot water. Pour the recommended concentration of urn cleaner into the shuttle liners. Do not overload as this will attack the stainless steel. DIP-IT and Oxylite are most recommended. Scrub the liner interior with a plastic bristle brush. Remove the knurled nut at the top of the gauge glass and clean the glass with a small bottle brush. Pour out the contents of the shuttle. Remove the handle assembly of the shuttle faucet by unscrewing the plastic bonnet. Gently wash the faucet shank with a bottle brush. Clean the warmer and bottom of the shuttle surfaces. These surfaces must be clean for proper heat transfer. Polish the exterior of the brewer with a stainless steel cleaner. Use the appropriate cleaner for brass, copper or vinyl if the optional finishes are present on your commercial brewer.
